    Finding Connection

    I had a discussion with somebody once about movies now compared to movies from my childhood (1970s–80s), and she said you tended to have a fondness – out of nostalgia – for things you grew up with. I thought about that, and while I agree that you do develop that emotional connection, the truth is there were a lot of great movies coming out when I was growing up.     Movies such as Star Wars: The Farce Awakens make me angry.   It’s endemic of contemporary Hollywood: looks great, slickly directed, wonderful special effects, but thin on story, driven by contrivance and, hey, that’s okay apparently, because that’s the standard nowadays, and you should just accept that.   No.   That’s no reason to give a movie – or any story – a pass mark.   I have a number of issues with The Farce Awakens, and yet this blog is by no means exhaustive.
